Today’s innovations for a better tomorrow

Innovolve is the commercialisation company of the
Nelson Mandela University.
Working closely with the Innovation Office of the Nelson Mandela University, Innovolve drives commercialization of the University’s innovations through the licensing of intellectual property and the establishment of spinout companies.

The Innovation Office of the Nelson Mandela University focuses on facilitating the identification, protection and management of intellectual property created through research and practice.

Innovolve focuses on the utilisation of this intellectual property for social and/or economic benefit. By managing and protecting the Nelson Mandela University’s intellectual property, the Innovation Office and Innovolve assist:

  • Researchers in translating their research into useful and innovative products and services, thus creating an additional layer of impact from their research, and
  • Industry in accessing such intellectual property in order to further develop and utilise the intellectual property.

Innovolve licenses the University’s innovations to established and new companies.  Innovolve will, if appropriate, hold shares in spin out and start up companies that utilise the Nelson Mandela University’s innovations.

Innovolve also forms part of the innovation ecosystem in the Nelson Mandela Bay by playing a role in Propella, the University’s incubator.  Propella incubates Innovolve start up companies based on the University’s intellectual property, as well as external innovative companies.
